What tips have you got for the best things to eat and drink at half-time?

Sören: Bratwurst, fish and bulette (a kind of Berlin hamburger – Ed.)

Markus: The ‘Rostbratwurst’ always tastes good (grilled bratwurst).

Alex: It’ll probably all be domintated by FIFA sponsors’ stuff. Otherwise they’ll be Bockwursts, Bratwursts and other types of sausage – but I’m not sure I can recommend them! Better to eat in town either before or after the match.

Andrea: Not a lot – you can only get basic food in the stadium.

Gunnar: Inside the ground it’s always packed. The best thing is to go the kiosk 5 minutes before half-time, otherwise you’ll be queuing for 20 (!) minutes (Gunnar’s advice, not mine – don’t shoot the messenger! Ed.)

Pepsi-Peppy: Currywurst and beer.

Joël: It’s best to have a donner kebab or a currywurst and a proper beer in the town beforehand.

Apart from football, what else is there interesting to see or do in the area?

Sören: Berlin’s got the lot. Whether you want the theatre, musicals, a casino, street parties or discos, you’ve never got enough time to enjoy it all in Berlin!

Markus: Berlin has so much to offer, I simply can’t list it all here.

Alex: In the summer, Berliner’s like to go to the numerous lakes or to large parks. Otherwise there’s the usual reminders of the recent past (the Wall, the Reichstag, Museums etc.).

Andrea: The whole of Berlin is worth seeing!! Personally, I’d recommend Potsdamer Platz, the Kurfürstendamm, all of the sights in the ‘Mitte’ district, the zoological gardens and the aquarium.

Gunnar: You can look around the Olympic Stadium even when there’s no game on, and it’s worth it due to its architecture and history. As well as all the tips you can find in any tourist guide, it’s also worth taking a trip off the beaten track to the Schachtensee lake in the south-west or the Müggelsee lake in the south-east – combined, of course, with a visit to a beer garden!

Joël: Apart from the typical tourist attractions: A boat trip on the Wannsee lake with a pleasure steamer.

What is the best thing to buy as a souvenir of the city?

Sören: The best thing to buy is a ‘buddy bear’. You’ll see them standing around everywhere, and there are also smaller versions you can buy (www.united-buddy-bears.com).

Markus: How about a Hertha shirt or scarf? Otherwise a Berlin bear is the obvious choice!

Alex: Anything

Andrea: T-shirts and a piece of Berlin Wall.

Gunnar: A bit of the Wall.

Pepsi-Peppy: A bit of the Berlin Wall. A Hertha flag from the fan shop.

Joël: Way-out gear in the secondhand shops on Bergmannstrasse (Mehringdamm tube station).
