Dortmund centre to stadium

Dortmund centre to stadium

The combined underground and light railway system in Dortmund, called the Stadtbahn, is clean and efficient, with regular trains to the stadium on match days.

You can use the station for the adjoining Westfalenhallen arena and exhibition centre, or the Westfalen Stadion’s own station – in use only if there’s a game on.

Line U45 runs from the main railway station to the stadium, while line U46 runs to the ground and the arena stops from the north east of the city.
Arrival at the stadium’s own station

Alternatively, you can take line U42 from the north east or south west of the city and get out at Theodor Fliedner Heim on Wittekindstrasse, from which the ground is just a couple of minutes walk.

Mainline trains
There is also a mainline railway station serving the arena. This is called the DO-Westfalenhalle Bahnhof (where DO stands for Dortmund and Bahnhof means station). This is served by regional express trains (line RE57) and standard regional trains (RB52, RB53 and RB59), and is also within walking distance of the ground (German rail journey planner). This very simple station (little more than a platform) is being refurbished for the World Cup.

By car
The stadium is essentially at the crossroads of two major arterial roads through Dortmund: the north-south B54 or Ruhrallee, and the east-west Ruhrschnellweg or B1. Follow signs for “Westfalenpark” and/or “Westaflenstadion”. Most car parks are signposted off the B54 just south of the intersection with the B1.

From the south
Access the B54 via the Dortmund south (Süd) exit of the A45 motorway

From the north
Leave the A2 at Dortmund north-east (Nordost) and join the B54 via the B236 and B1

From the west
Access the B1 via the Dortmund west exit from the A45

From the east
Join the B1 from the Dortmund Unna exit off the A1.
