Tips from Eintracht fans
The fan liaison officer Rudolf Köhler put on his thinking cap as the first person to respond to our questionnaire from Frankfurt.
Below and on the following page are his answers.
Where’s the best place to go for a drink before the game? Which are the five best pubs near the ground?
Rudolf: The only place near the ground is the Jahnstuben. There are also quite a few good stands selling snacks and fast food.
Which are the best pubs in the city centre for meeting other fans and chatting about football?
Rudolf: There are loads of pubs in Sachsenhausen.
Where do fans meet to celebrate after a win?
Rudolf: In Sachsenhausen.
Where do fans meet after a defeat?
Rudolf: In Sachsenhausen.
Where’s a cheap place to stay overnight?
Rudolf: There are cheap hotels around the railway station. However, due to all the trade fairs, Frankfurt is often all booked up and very expensive. It’s better to spread out into the outlying areas.
Apart from football, what else is there interesting to see or do in the area?
Rudolf: A whole host of stuff! Museums, theatre, excusrions into the surrounding area, and so on.
What is the best thing to buy as a souvenir of the city?
Rudolf: A ‘Bembel’! (a stoneware cider jug)
If you can pick and choose, where’s the best place to sit (or stand) in the ground?
Rudolf: The stand opposite the tunnel, lower tier, on the half-way line.
Where should you definitely not sit?
Rudolf: In the cells!
What’s the best way to get from the city centre to the ground on public transport?
Rudolf: S-Bahn (metro / suburban train).
Where’s the best place to park near the ground?
Rudolf: Waldparkplatz (‘Wald’ car park), Gleisdreieck car park, Isenburger Schneise car park, the below ground multi-storey.
What is the typical thing to drink in the region?
Rudolf: Apfelwein (cider).
What is the typical thing to eat in the region?
Rudolf: Rippchen mit Kraut (pork cutlets with sauerkraut), Frankfurter Grüne Soße (a green herb sauce), Frankfurter Würstchen (a pair of smoked pork sausages, cooked by heating in water, eaten with mustard, horse radish, bread or potato salad).
Many thanks for taking part to:
